A project investigating the interaction between the image, the individual and the network in a playful way. While researching the effect of the increasing automated processes across many professional fields this recursive system is an intermediate outcome of work in progress.
Based on Google’s reverse image search function I’ve created an application – uploading an image or snapshot initiates an ongoing loop of similar images. Each time the programme is triggered a new story emerges. The initial image leads to an ongoing string of visually related images and puts them into a new and unique context.
This project was done back in December 2015 as part of my MA Communcation Design course. With the generous help of Sion Fletcher and Jake Dow Smith.
The result of an initial manual test with the Google reverse image search.

At the Work in Progress Show people could use the application and create sequences. Each time a new story is created based on visual similarity, chance and the nature of the underlining search algorithm.
Roughly 12’000 images have been gathered over the course of three days at the Work in Progress Show. A selection of these images have been turned into a book.
